Capstone Project- Jackie Flam
Project Abstract: The goal of this project is to create a mural to make use of the walls of room 1100 in the Cambridge Community Center, home of the College Park Scholars for aesthetic as well as informational purposes. The project will be a series of canvases with symbols that represent each of the scholars programs, spelling out the word “Scholars”. We are planning on painting these canvases with acrylic paint in a variety of bold colors with the purpose of uniting the program, especially in a time of so much division and social separation. The symbols that will be included are a treble clef, a magnifying glass, leaves, gears, a microphone, a globe, an American flag, a money sign to describe and spell out scholars visually. This project aims to reach current University of Maryland students who engage with the College Park Scholars program and also all prospective University of Maryland students to showcase what we are all about. This audience will likely be a diverse audience in many ways including, racially, generationally, with regards to life experiences, interests, and backgrounds, so this project will incorporate as much inclusivity as possible.
